Pros

Many good people with advanced skills to work along side of, company's success skyrocketed and then peaked in 2007. There "was" a time when everybody that I spoke with at Genzyme gave me the impression that they really were happy to work for Genzyme!

Cons

At one time people "were' truly happy to work for Genzyme, that all changed in 2007! And it has steadily gotten worse since. Now people are always on edge, walking on egg shells, management has been out of touch with the real beat on the streets for many years. They will actually use the following "articulate" phrase addressing the assembly: "If you do not like it, then you should be looking for a job elsewhere". It was already getting chaotic and then the company was bought by Sanofi. Sanofi wants to "harmonize" operations. Which sounds good, sounds all warm and fuzzy but what works for the pharmaceutical industry may not be advantageous for the Biotech industry. The fear of Sanofi by Genzyme Management has them running around with inappropriate agendas which it is transparent that the Genzyme Management is in fear of losing their positions and are in self preservation mode. Times are turbulent, perhaps after all of the dust settles in some 5 years or so it will be okay to work there again. The HR personnel are merely mouthpieces for management; sure they will explain your benefits but if you have any grievances with any superiors (as this has been shared to me by multiple people who have attempted) you are just setting your self up for misery. HR will maintain a bias for management and do not have your best interest in mind! With the rapid growth of the company came growing pains. Pains which they have failed to overcome to this day such as lack of meaningful communication between departments/groups; often there are details which are not shared and contributes to confusion etc.

Pros

You Learn a lot about GMP/Pharmaceutical Industry since its heavily regulated by the FDA. The pay is good for the position.

Cons

There are limited opportunities for career advancement, particularly for contractors. Training is generally restricted to the specific process equipment required for assigned tasks, with little opportunity for broader skill development. Additionally, the workplace culture can be challenging. Some long-tenured employees appear to feel entitled to treat others disrespectfully, creating a toxic work environment. Their seniority often seems to shield them from accountability, as concerns raised with management frequently go unaddressed. There also appears to be a lack of diversity and inclusion, which contributes to workplace microaggressions, disrespectful behavior, and an environment where not all employees feel equally valued or respected. There is limited opportunity for contractors being hired on a full time basis, they have to leave the company for six months before they can be hired back! No company benefits for contractors!
