The management very much has this mentality of leading by intimidation in order to make you work harder. They will routinely compare reporters to others, effectively trying to create rivalries, also in a misguided attempt to get you to work harder. In addition, it's not uncommon for managers to yell in rage for seemingly trivial things. When I confronted my boss's boss, telling him the situation, he shrugged and said, 'That's the job of the manager.' Also, there was very little guidance on how to do the job. You were just expected to know. UNLESS you do it wrong--- and then they will scold you for not doing what they want, even though the manager never actually communicated his or her expectations.
