Pros

- Great Base, Bonus and Stocks for a very competitive total comp - Great work life balance with Hybrid work schedule, general flexibility and generous PTO - Generally impactful work depending on the team which can lead to good career growth

Cons

- Awful performance management system. Twice a year calibration against peers, Apples to oranges comparison, with a mandatory forced distribution twice a year. So meeting expectations or even exceeding them in some cases can lead to poor ratings. Your manager owns your rating and therefore your life. Makes being a people leader here absolutely unbearable, and being an IC even harder. The process is extremely subjective and highly political. Playing politics and being a favorite of the leadership team is the only way to really survive long term. - Extremely political place with a lot of toxic leaders and aggressive personalities across the board. Very cutthroat place. - Culture of fear increasing by the day. - Internal mobility is difficult. Manager gets notified when an associate applies to a new role. - Cannot move internally at all if rating is "Below Strong"

Pros

Some of the smartest individuals in their fields. The focus is always “forward” and the company is willing to adopt new tech to stay ahead for the purposes of the company’s (key word there) benefit. Great PTO and benefits.

Cons

The company’s drive to keep itself moving forward has caused it to regress in other aspects. As a leading tech company first, and leading bank second, it’s embarrassing what their stance is on hybrid and remote work. The company can easily accommodate remote options for their employees not near main offices, but chooses not to. I am relocating to a major city with no major CapOne presence and their response was “too bad, either fly up weekly or you’ll be terminated for not meeting the hybrid requirements”. It’s embarrassing because most of my week is remote anyways. I wonder how many current and past employees have been impacted, and I’m worried about how much talent they’ll be pushing away in the coming years.
