Pros

flexible work arrangements, extremely dynamic environment (this could be a negative as well though)

Cons

long hours, expected to do the work of at least 3 people in an expedient and exemplary manner. They pay 20% below the market rates. New manageer at least every year so no real time to build relationship, carreer plan. Job outsourcing, everyone I know walks in everyday thinking it might be their last. They are not only laying off the 'slackers' anymore, now it is anyone. Tons of knowledge loss as these layoffs have occured. Sales is unhappy with compensation packages, and so a lot of sales people have 'jumped ship'.

Pros

Talented personnel are Dell's primary asset. If you want to challenge yourself, the level of talent will make you improve yourself. Very competitive environment. If you have the right skill set, there are plenty of career options at Dell. Dell welcomes breadth in jobs and you own your career. Now being on the outside and a student at a top 10 MBA program, I appreciate even more the experience and knowledge Dell gave me.

Cons

Long hours and work life balance are a challenge. Even though Michael has said the business is turning around, how is Dell innovating and will the innovation continue if they become a leader again? After years of defending manufacturing in the U.S. and being close to the customer, manufacturing is disappearing and moving to Asia and other WW locations. If you are an operations person, forget working at Dell. Your network is extremely important at Dell and if you want to move up in roles, you must develop a strong network.
