Deliveroo’s was once known for great design but those days are long gone and it's been coasting on it's reputation ever since. There’s little direction from leadership, and the Director of Design remains largely disengaged—making no effort to connect verticals, foster collaboration, or invest in team growth. Learning and development is self-driven, with no structured support or budget. Internally, it’s often joked that no one really knows what the Director does, beyond conference appearances and riding on past success. Across the board, leadership feels jaded and risk-averse, with a revolving door of product and innovation leaders. Engineering is increasingly outsourced, and the business is stuck in a cycle of cost-cutting to stay afloat in a low-margin space (gig economy). If you're looking to learn, grow, and be challenged, you’ll likely find better opportunities elsewhere. But if you're content to coast and collect a paycheck, it might suit you just fine. In summary: mid-tier company, mid-range pay and benefits, average equity, no perks like food, and a return-to-office policy of 3 days per week.
