Pros

Financially stable company, very smart and hardworking people, paycheck every two weeks, good benefits, some exposure to the latest technology depending on which unit you are. Good place to build experience

Cons

No innovation or excitement, too many project managers, bean counters. Lots if infighting, political struggles. Too much drama just to do an Execution Commit. Your ideas will or will not be listened to based on what your title is, not based on what they are. There is very little advancement opportunity. Employees who started at early 90s are too cocky have the grandiosity complex. Cisco was at the right place at the right time but now times of high flying stock is over. For the last 8 years, there is no meaningful raise, bonuses are going down. Hard to attract new talent. Engineers who are doing the actual work are not respected or appreciated properly. Management thinks, R&D, oh someone will do that, if not we'll have it done in India or China, I'd rather increase my visibility under the label or cross collaboration and look out for my few trusted tech leads. I know every department is different but I feel overall Cisco is on the fast track of becoming another big fat boring company like IBM.

Pros

Solid company, will be around for the next 10 - 20 years. Lots of places to find a niche. Lots of locations worldwide, wide variety of software and hardware positions. Flexible work hours, telecommuting, easy to stay connected 24 x 7. Highly educated workforce, lots of very smart people to hang out with and learn from. Market leader in many many categories. Free popcorn and drinks. Engineers have access to state of the art computers, labs and networks, and access to some of the biggest customers in the world, you wouldn't have this level acceptance working for a startup or a mid-level company.

Cons

It is a large company. 2001 brought some tough downsizing but there are still a lot of people failing to live up to their potential. This is mostly due to incompetent middle management on average, folks who have gotten promoted because they've stuck around for a long time and will put up with the crap that goes on with politics and maneuvering. No more HR department, the first and second level managers are expected to "do it all", lead the way, set the example and motivate and train as well as be de facto technical leads and pollinate projects across groups and locations.

Pros

Great culture, positive place to work, great benefits and overall compensation. Very comprehensive employee services with attention to detail for those services (e.g. gym offers many different classes every month).

Cons

Very fast paced and if you are not up to this pace you will get lost and/or lose credibility with your peers in this organization. Also, work life balance in my opinion continues to be a struggle as part of this hard-driving organization. Expectations are VERY high of all contributors with those willing to sacrifice family time or other work/life balance continues to be a struggle.
