Nice place to start with many benefits, but also weaknesses

Pros

- relaxed company culture - no strict hierarchy - nice office building - free snacks, lunch and dinner delivered to the office - team building activities

Cons

- company culture TOO relaxed sometimes: it feels a lot like a high school with "the cool kids", "the new kids" etc. Many unprofessional relationships between colleagues as well which of course leads to less objectivity in the working environment - some people (not the developers though) have management/leading positions even though they are quite incompetent and unqualified, they do not really know what they are doing and are thus harming the entire team or even the company´s image (eg by straight out embarassing marketing campaigns for other countries) - a general danger: the company should attach more importance to the quality of its products and services than its image and impression on the media/people outside of the company, many projects get cancelled because quality was severly lacking and/or because so-called "managers" just did not listen to their team - give real tasks and a certain kind of responsability to your student helpers, they are just sitting around, ready and willing to help, but you tend to give them nothing to do FOR MONTHS or even refuse to talk to them at all like they belong to a second class of people - the team building activities are not for everyone, but only for selected people (interns, student helpers, or non-permanent employees do not get to participate in everything) - many interns, especially in recruitment, get exploited, they have a significantly higher workload than some full-time employees but have to live with the uncertainty of non-permanent contracts which might or might not be extended - for another contract for only 6 months - the internal feedback system (everyone gives feedback to someone about their colleagues) is a nice idea, but tends to get abused for gossip, childish/ridiculous feedback, or just unfair and never heard before criticism. If someone has a problem, it would make so much more sense to address this directly with your colleagues instead of collecting evidence and complaining to someone else

Pros

- the company has all sorts of benefits you can think of - the pay is overall good compared to the European market and a complete outlier in Italy - the colleagues are amazingly skilled, and mostly very nice people to work with (people tend to help you if you ask) - the company is pretty much transparent towards its employees regarding major decisions (or at least, it feels like this)

Cons

- very poor work/life balance due to lots of work and very "ambitious" deadlines (to be able to deliver at the pace you are asked to, you will constantly have to put in extra hours, even if you are extremely efficient) - even if the company looks like it has noble purposes, at the end of the day, what it seems to mostly care about is money, so all of the decisions it makes are oriented towards maximizing earnings, with all the pros and cons that result from this - the company puts a lot of pressure on performance, and if you do not perform well, you are let go - senior employees are sometimes so busy that you will lack the opportunity to learn from them - you will have the feeling that some of the people you work with are solely trying to maximize their performances based on the metrics that are used to define performance

Pros

Occasionally attractive Italian colleagues on zoom calls

Cons

Arrogant managers that lack the emotional quotient and have the inability to make eye contact.

Bending Spoons Response

We’re sorry you had a bad experience with some of our leads. We take pride in the extremely high bar we uphold for ourselves not just in terms of technical skills, but also human values. Nevertheless, it seems we failed to support you appropriately, of which, we apologize. It’s important to note that we’ve repeatedly won awards as one of or the best places to work in Europe, and that our incredibly tightly knit and supportive company culture tends to be among the most cited reasons making Bending Spoons special. So, while we acknowledge your experience was negative, it may not represent what the overwhelming majority of Spooners feel. Still, we take your feedback to heart, and wish you all the best!
