      Amazon going down hills due to lack of good leaders

      Pros

      I've grown my career entirely in Amazon, all engineers and managers I've worked with have been excellent, or competent mostly. It's a place where people can grow their skills and career.

      Cons

      I've changed team once, and now looking for external job due to same reason: org and projects changing every single week. And unfortunately there's no good mechanism in place to stop these things, people usually choose to leave, either to other org or just leave the company for good.

      Pros

      Lots of opportunity for learning new technologies.

      Cons

      Toxic work environment, everyone "heads down" and not a lot of peer support. 24/7 on-call rotation feels like wearing an ankle monitor with issues coming up at all times of day and night.

      Good environment if you want to learn a lot and be pushed to work hard and deliver. Great compensation.

      Cons

      Not so great if you want a life outside work. Very high expectations and low tolerance for failure. On-call rotation weeks are tough.
