Pros

Good teams exist, but they're a needle in the haystack. The all cash signing bonus was pretty sweet while it lasted. Cool security problem set you don't really get at many other companies due to AWS' sheer size

Cons

Recruiters overtly lied to head-hunt myself and 3 former colleagues from our former company. All 4 of us had virtual work locations specified in our offer letter and Amazon essentially laid us off by saying relocate to the Arlington, VA office by a specified date or you're effectively resigning. Duplicate then eliminate makes pointing out inadequacies in competing teams work products tantamount to your survival here. Many of L8 Directors in different organizations were incredibly unprofessional and lacked backbone.

Pros

- Exposure to Big Tech Culture: Got to experience the unique culture and operational scale of a major tech company. - Learning Opportunities: Learned advanced technical skills that are specific to large tech environments. - Supportive Peers: Colleagues were generally supportive and helpful, fostering a collaborative work atmosphere.

Cons

- Toxic Management Practices: The management style in the Hong Kong region felt very toxic and included micromanagement, which hindered professional growth and moral. - Lack of Technical Appreciation: Recent changes in management have led to undervaluing technical skills and certifications, with hiring practices that do not prioritize essential qualifications. - Inconsistent Leadership: Project teams are managed by operations leaders who may not have the necessary technical background, leading to mismanagement and inefficiencies

Pros

The compensation is hard to match anywhere else in the industry. The technical challenges that you solve and the scale at which you solve them are hard to find anywhere else on Earth.

Cons

The executive leadership (L8 and L10, Director and VP, respectively) are some of the most highly compensated, incompetent people that you'll find anywhere. They are pressured to deliver on a profit and loss statement and that pressure has made the Amazon Leadership Principles meaningless. The good people left long ago and the good people who remain are stressed to their human limits.
