During the hiring process I was misled on what I was going to work on and about the roles and responsibilities of my role. They will tell you anything to get you through the door.
- Leadership is absolutely disconnected from the teams and work. Most of them make decisions in siloes with no clue what is really going on.
- Lots of talkers, not many doers
- Leaders think that they are too important to talk to people
- Every 3 weeks there is a new restructure, some new lead joining, someone leaving, some new process only adding confusion to the already chaotic environment
- The office in Stevenage feels more like a den rather than a modern office environment - It is at the edge of an industrial zone with nothing around - No food options, many days I go hungry unless I bring food with me
- Working culture is an unprofessional mess. Everyone interrupting everyone constantly, endless meetings with no substance, no standards, no expectations, some people overworked while others doing nothing.
- Instead of modern tools and processes most people use excel spreadsheets to organise work
- High turnover (as soon as someone joins they realise how much they were misled and look for another job)
- Lack of modern project management practices. Command and control, micromanagement, and old-school waterfall project management.
- Some people have little knowledge or skills and use ChatGPT to pretend they know something
- If they don't like someone, they manage them out of the business
- People got promoted to director roles with no clue of even basic leadership aspects
- Everyone that is put on a tech lead or project lead position is expected to deliver impossible amounts of work without having enough people or skills in the teams at impossible dates for clients that are impossible to work with.
