Events Director Interview Questions
153 events director interview questions shared by candidates
One question I was asked was, “You are tasked with creating an event that is circus-themed—what would you do?” I found this to be an odd question. At a senior level, developing an event theme is a basic part of the process, but truly executing an event requires a much deeper understanding of key factors. For example, is this event focused on client retention or pipeline acceleration? What are the specific goals? What time of year is it? What’s the budget? Without these foundational details, answering the question feels like shooting in the dark, leaving room for misalignment and potential issues. As a seasoned marketer and event planner, I can certainly get creative with a theme, and I did answer accordingly, but the lack of context made the question feel disconnected from how events are actually planned. A more effective question would have incorporated strategic objectives, allowing for a response that demonstrates not just creativity but also practical execution aligned with business goals.
Why do you like working on events?
All asked the same question to go over my background and experience as if they did not read my CV in advance. Asked a lot of tactical and situational based questions. Did not spend a lot of time on strategic areas of success.
