I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Walmart (Bengaluru) in Sep 2018
Interview
1 written algo ds round - 5 questions. At least 2 have to be answered.
2 problem solving round.
- My interviews went well, I was able to answer all F2F round questions and the interviewers could not find enough issues with my code. Still I don't know what happened, they rejected me. The HR told the he does not know the reason, initially he told me feedback is positive, upon enquiring on the next day about further rounds, I was informed that I did not meet their expectation - I don't know what their expectation is, they could not even tell what went wrong. They do not give any feedback, make decisions behind the closed doors and never care about the candidate's time, efforts etc. All in all, I was disheartened. It represents to a certain extent about their culture and justifies their 3.0 rating on glassdoor. They are hiring crazily, so I believe in the process they hire many many average engineers / managers who ultimately can not judge other good candidates & wastes their time.
- Be cautious before taking their interview.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Walmart (Bengaluru) in Jul 2018
Interview
Resume sent for referral.
Called by Recruitment vendor to know the tech stack and then called to the office in Bangalore for Interview.
First round was the written round, had to write full code on paper. There were around 5 puzzles out of which 2 had to be answered. I answered three. I was told that they would ask me questions based on the code I write, but the paper was taken and no one asked anything from it in interviews.
For second round, a lady came to take Java Interview. She did not seem well prepared for it and was continuously receiving pings on her laptop, which was quite disturbing. It seemed like she didn't know what she was asking since when I cross-questioned her to clarify some of the questions, she had no answers. When I asked about the job role as well, she said that only the hiring manager knows what the job role is and I am only here to check the Java skills. The questions that were asked were extremely ambiguous, which made it difficult to answer them and when I answered she made weird, in-approving faces, which was quite annoying.
The third round was to test the UI skills and was again taken by a lady. She just came in and started firing questions at me to check the JavaScript,HTML and CSS skills. I answered most of the questions and it seemed to have gone pretty OK. Although there was no response or feedback or discussions of any kind in this round, just back and forth questions and answers were asked. Here as well, there was no information given about the role.
It seemed like they were more interested for Java skills and UI round was taken just for formality even though I had clearly stated that my major work experience has been on the UI side.
The people who took my interview and the people at the office in general seemed quite sad and no one smiles at anyone or gives an interviewee a feeling of warmth or welcome.
When I asked the Vendor if they can do a phone screen first before I went to the office wasting my time and paid leave from office, I was denied and told that this is the process. So, in the end I told the vendor that I won't be wasting more of my time for the HR manager round.
The Glassdoor rating for companies are pretty indicative and the 3.1 overall rating of Walmart is clearly justified seeing the kind of interviews they take.
