I applied online. I interviewed at Microsoft in Nov 2020
Interview
Very streamline standard process, phone interview then virtual onsite interview with two engineers. Phone was behavioral with one question thats a pretty open ended algorithm question. Onsite interviews were a little behavioral and mostly technical. One technical question per interviewer. Received decision a couple days after interview.

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Microsoft (Berkeley, CA) in Sep 2019
Interview
The interview was held in person and was obtained through a referral. It was about an hour long and it was divided in two stages: the first 30 min were about experience history, projects, and education. The second part was divided in two question for about 15 min each. Time was definitely not enough to solve the questions, and the interviewer was quiet all the time. It was sort of uncomfortable.
The first round was a phone interview where the recruiter asked a mix of behavioral and technical questions. The second round was live coding challenges that lasted a couple of hours.
