I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at LensCrafters in Nov 2009
Interview
I was referred by a friend and the interview was with the general manager and the lead eyecare advisor. They asked simple situational questions from previous jobs. Typical background questions. Why i left my last job. Nothing too hard.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at LensCrafters (San Jose, CA) in Aug 2011
Interview
First you communicate with the regional lead optometrist via email, phone. Then you get a scheduled interview with a managing optometrist in the area you'd like to practice. Then a few weeks later, you get another interview with different managing optometrist at their location. A few weeks later, you receive the offer, go into one of the offices to pick up the drug test forms, and perform the drug test while they follow up on your references. You have to return a ton of paperwork, and schedule an orientation with a managing optometrist at your "home" location (not necessarily the closest one to your home). As a casual part-time optometrist, you connect with various managing optometrists of locations you'd be willing to work, and they offer you days to fill-in, or you can also check online (but fewer opportunities online).
