Interview process was a bit nerve-wracking as I knew nothing of technology, but well versed in video production. I researched as much as I could before the interview, but Intel is a huge company with many complex products for a non-techy and I was afraid I would sound silly. My only hope was relying on my knowledge in video production, showcasing the samples on my USB, and pretending I knew what a transistor is.
The day of, I walked in confident, ready to talk technology. Then, the first thing he asked was, "tell me a joke". I froze for a few seconds before sharing the only dad joke I knew. I could tell it wasn't funny because he didn't laugh. He didn't even flinch. He just smiled and said "Good. Now tell me what you know about video editing". After telling him what I know, I showed my samples and the interview was over. I left confused and a bit disappointed in myself for allowing panic to set in.
A few days later, I was offered the job. I accepted and found out later the reason he chose me. He said he didn't care if I knew about the technology, he can teach that. He only cared if I knew how to do what the job entailed and how I would react under pressure (hence the joke question). Plus, apparently I was the only one who came in with samples to show.
I felt accomplished and honestly, thankful to have him as my supervisor.
