Recruiter -> Mini Case -> power Day (4 rounds back to back)
Recruiter round was straight forward, asked about experiences and why this role.
Mini Case is a 1 hour round which will focus on one of the Cap1 products, for me it was their shopping tool. Qns include - What is the business value of this product to Cap1? How will you improve it? There will be a qn on high level architecture to implement your solution etc. this round will also include a section where they show you 2 mockup emails, and ask you how to improve it. and another qn which shows you some data and interpret it.
Product skills - Questions will come in HBITL format for an experience that you share. make sure to have sample answers
Product Case x2 - I thought qns in their playbook were very simple. The questions asked during the interview were different but maybe of the same or slightly higher difficulty. But what messed me up was the strategy questions asked in between the math problems. You can do a quant qn easily when you are focused on it. But here, first is strat followed by quant, then again a strat, followed by a quant qn which needs the output of the 1st math qn, all the while explaining your thought process to the interviewer. Although I did end up getting the answers for the first case round, I had to take some help from the interviewer to get it.
I was prepared for the second round, so it went a bit more smoothly.
Product Design - I was asked the DMV question,
Post Interview - I thought I had a chance after the process, but got the rejection in 4 days
A very structured and helpful recruiter who is communicative and supportive, and I would highly recommend anyone considering a role. The process is set up to help candidates secure the role than throw them off at any stage.
I applied online. I interviewed at Capital One (Chicago, IL) in Mar 2025
Interview
I applied online and the recruiter reached out to me. Recruiter call was more about the role, hiring process, expectations, learning more about myself, salary expectations, benefits etc. Recruiter asked to prepare 3 capital one products to prepare - capitalOne shopping, capital one mobile app, virtual card numbers. During mini case 1 hour interview, started with general introduction. Then, he asked me about the feature I would develop for capital one mobile app and how can i attract more customers to use that feature?
