Getting your manager a birthday gift, thoughts? Yay or nay
Im an Asian guy married to a Black woman. We have a 10 year old son. Ive been watching the murder trial of Rick Chow and tried not to let race play a role in my thoughts. I feel relieved he was found not guilty of murder. I do believe he shot the child in defense of his son. I also feel sad he's not guilty. I think the prosecutor charged him incorrectly. Maybe manslaughter? I also do believe both ends mad poor choices; chasing after a suspected child thief and a child carrying a gun.
These "graduations" from kindergarten, 6th grade, 8th grade, etc.....they drive me right up the effing wall. It's not a graduations, It's a promotion. You ain't graduated shit until you get a legitimate diploma
I took a two-year career break after being laid off in early 2024 to focus on my mental and physical health. I’ve worked hard to get my life back on track and feel ready to return to tech. But the job market has me wondering if I’ve hurt my career by stepping away for so long. As a woman in tech, the anxiety is getting to me. I know I don’t want to be a housewife, I want to get back to work and rebuild my career. Did I mess up my future, or can I still make a comeback?
Friends and family are always trying to set me up on dates. I may be weird or one of few. I have no interests in dating. I enjoy going out with friends and having a fun time but have no interests in dating. At the end of the day, I just want to be by myself, sleep in my bed, not touched by anyone. I dont have trouble getting dates; just dont want to date. no interests in men or women in that way. I'm 5ft4, 114 lbs, educated, 28 and on track for a good career. Can a woman live happily alone?
Struggling with wedding planning with my fiancé. We’re looking at dates and she refuses to consider any dates in the summer as they’re too hot (this limits us to spring and fall as she also doesn’t want a winter wedding). Her brother is going to the 2027 rugby World Cup in Australia for the month of October, so she’s pushing hard for either September or April. My birthday is in April and falls on a Saturday, and one of the other choices is September 11th. (Continued in comments)
Never gift up
I don’t want gifts from my associates.
Nay. Just wish them a happy birthday.
I don't know anyone at my office's birthday..
You gift down not up
Depends on the Relationship. I had a manager who started at roughly the same time as me but was a more senior lateral. We worked together for years as colleagues and I supported their promotion to be my manager. I'd still get them something small like a cookie from a bakery. If you don't genuinely classify them as a friend, I wouldn't get them anything. Don't gift up
Wait I’ve been gifted up to- how should I read that?
It’s a book, hopefully should be fine…
If they haven't been to your home & you don't hang out with them on weekends, then no gifts. S/he's not your bff. The best gift you can give them is something work-related. Like finish a project early. Or solve a glaring team/business problem that really frustrates your manager. Those gifts are such blessings.
Services.
Buy them lunch or a drink but not a gift
Nay No gifting up
I did - a slice of cake from a nice bakery near the office
No way
Manager, not a friend, nay every day
