Superintendent E&I Engineering Development

About the role

We are looking for a Superintendent E&I Engineering Development to join our diverse team. This is a key role within the Owner’s team with the responsibility for growing a diverse and capable team to continue the lateral and mass excavation development ramp up activities.

The Opportunity

Lead the technical development and capability uplift of national E&I Superintendents, Specialists, Senior Engineers, and Supervisors through structured mentoring, technical oversight, and SPS-aligned leadership. Ensure compliance with high-voltage standards, functional safety, and engineering assurance across underground operations. The Superintendent supports capital project execution, shutdown readiness, and continuous improvement initiatives while embedding sustainable systems and reducing reliance on expatriate expertise.

This role is critical to delivering the nationalization roadmap, maintaining SPS maturity, and ensuring continuity of leadership and technical governance across underground E&I systems.

What the role entails

This role is a great opportunity to take the next step in your career whilst working on a truly global project. Working 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off to site roster and reporting to Principal Advisor EI&C you will:

• Lead a team of expatriate Advisors to deliver structured training and skills development programs.
• Mentor national Superintendents, Senior Engineers, and Supervisors to build technical leadership capacity.
• Oversee implementation of HV/LV electrical practices, functional safety, and process safety standards.
• Ensure compliance with site electrical standards, permit systems, and statutory documentation.
• Contribute to design reviews and engineering assurance for Life of Mine (LOM) infrastructure.
• Support capital project delivery and cost optimization through technical oversight and risk mitigation.
• Drive SPS maturity and CRI compliance through coaching, structured development, and system integration.
• Collaborate with planning and reliability teams to align development efforts with operational priorities.
• Provide input into departmental Workforce Planning (WFP) and budget oversight processes.
• Promote a strong safety culture and support Critical Risk Management (CRM) activities.
• Participate in shutdown planning and execution, ensuring readiness and reliability of underground assets.
• Lead procedure development and safe work practices for underground E&I operations.
• Define skill profiles, coordinate training, and maintain competency databases for national workforce development.
• Track readiness for role transition and succession planning milestones.
• Manage HR and onboarding processes for E&I roles

What you will need for this role

• Electrical Engineering degree or HV trade certification
• Specialized training in HV protection systems, cable jointing, and commissioning
• Functional Safety Technician or Engineer (preferred)
• HV Switching and Protection Systems Certification
• SAP or CMMS system training (preferred)
• Minimum 10 years in HV electrical maintenance and operations
• Proven experience in mentoring and developing technical teams
• Hands-on experience with:
• HV cable jointing and terminations (35kV and 10.5kV)
• Transformer and switchgear maintenance
• Protection relay testing and fault isolation
• HV commissioning and system upgrades
• SAP or other CMMS platforms

Where you’ll be working

Oyu Tolgoi is an operating Copper / Gold open pit mine with a brownfields underground mining project. The site is located in the Gobi Desert region of Mongolia. The reserves case for the underground project is in the order of 0.5 billion tonnes of ore to be mined from the 95,000 tonnes per day Hugo North Lift 1 (HNL1) panel cave mine with a 20-year operations life. There is also the potential for 3 further block cave districts to increase mine life beyond 100 years.
